A Counting Book with a Story submitted by Meginator on June 21, 2023, 11:27pm This is a counting book with a lively narrative frame about a family shopping for, preparing, and eventually enjoying a large meal together. The illustrations are colorful and the feast looks delicious, providing some nice vocabulary words as an additional bonus. The book’s poetry has a simple rhythm to it that works well when read aloud, although it took me a couple of repetitions to realize where all of the rhymes hit, and it makes for a nice interactive experience with young readers or listeners who are enthusiastically learning to count, with an additional ability to find and count the relevant items on every page. Simple yet effective, this book is engaging and educational at the same time and has a timeless quality to it.
