"German baking is legendary and informs baking traditions the world over: Christmas cookies, coffee cakes, delicate tortes, soft seeded rolls, and hearty dumplings all have their origins in Germany (and Austria). In Classic German Baking, blogger and author Luisa Weiss--who was born in Berlin to an Italian mother and American father, and married into a family of bakers with roots in Saxony--has collected and mastered the recipes most essential to every good baker's repertoire. In addition to the pillars of the German baking tradition, like Christmas stollen, lebkuchen, and apple strudel, Weiss includes overlooked gems, like eisenbahner--an almond macaroon paste piped onto jam-topped shortbread--and rosinenbrötchen--the raisin-studded whole wheat buns that please a child's palate and a parent's conscience--to create the resource that bakers across the world have long wanted,"--Baker & Taylor.

Needs more pictures of the food submitted by Marykw21 on June 27, 2017, 12:22pm This cookbook has a lot of fun and authentic German recipes. The only problem was that it had more pictures of German cities and the lush country side than the food it was teaching you how to bake.

Baking made easy submitted by hadleysnicole on June 26, 2018, 9:09am Classic German Baking by Luisa Weiss is filled with 100 recipes of authentic German baking for breads and sweets! We learn what it means to bake like the Germans do and learn what techniques are different from us in America. With recipes like Apple Strudel to chocolate cakes that are to die for and even some healthy recipes as well. This book is the definition of German Baking that everyone will enjoy reading and making these recipes in their own homes!

This well-organized book is perfect of bakers from novices to pros. It the history of the each recipe before detailing in easy to follow step-by-step instructions how to bake. There’s an extensive glossary of ingredients. My one recommendation is to have more pictures for a visual aspect.
