Lots of facts for kiddos

A Broad Nonfiction Book submitted by Meginator on July 6, 2023, 9:28pm This companion book to the corresponding Magic Tree House adventure offers a lot of useful information about early groups of humans and ice-age mammals but doesn’t provide enough context to work particularly well as a standalone guide to the subject. Most of the book consists of brief thematically focused chapters, which are followed by an abbreviated animal encyclopedia that focuses primarily on the animals Jack and Annie encountered during their fictional escapades. The prose is clear and is accompanied by ample illustrations and asides that help break up the text for younger readers, although its sections on human (and Neanderthal) history are desperately in need of a connecting timeline. While it does offer a lot of specific information about how various groups of humans and animals lived in this period, with many nods to the archaeologists and other scientists who study these subjects, the book isn’t quite as focused or successful as the others from this track of the Magic Tree House world. Nonetheless, it still functions as an excellent entry point for readers whose interest is piqued by its fictional counterpart.
