Edgar Allan Poe and the London Monster submitted by camieroper on August 25, 2019, 8:56pm The first of three EA Poe mysteries, the author's posits Poe pairing up with Auguste Chevalier Dupin to solve various mysteries, usually murders. She researches Poe's life and the settings in London and Philadelphia, and this attention to detail makes for an intensely good read. Purportedly written (suspend your disbelief) by Poe, Street does an excellent job of mimicking his dark style. She references alcohol-fueled incidents and nightmares, yet Poe tries to become a better person. From his grandparents' generation (actors of somewhat ill repute) to his present-day family, the story is creepy, dark, otherworldly, and deeply engaging. The author inserts tidbits from 30 of Poe's published works as a secondary puzzle for her readers. I look forward to reading another of these.
