Informative, Well-Written submitted by Sara W on June 21, 2011, 9:09am
What a great look at what happens behind the scenes at the Supreme Court. David Souter is my favorite justice. I had no idea I would have a favorite.

The cases discussed in the book are plainly summarized along with the accompanying controversies and decisions. Toobin does a great job ferreting out interesting details and exploring relevant backstory, like with the development of the Federalist Society and conservative movement. The backgrounds and confirmation processes of each justice get pretty even treatment - I never would have suspected Clarence Thomas of being an avid RVer and Nascar fan. I never would have suspected it of any Supreme Court justice. Fascinating.

The wrap-up was pretty unsettling, as Toobin demonstrates how significantly altered the Court so quickly became. Gulp.
