A Wordless Imagination Adventure submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:26am This picture book tells its story almost entirely without text, with a few words appearing in some of the illustrations. Aside from one late leap in logic that leads to the climax (a conflict seems to be brewing, yet the story continues on regardless), the gentle story flows naturally and should be accessible to young readers while inviting them to fill in the gaps. The art itself has contrasting styles, with sharp human characters rendered differently than the nuanced natural puffiness that characterizes Wiesner’s clouds; the latter are stunning as they drift along more concrete backgrounds. The story itself invites readers to exercise their imaginations, a perfect theme for a book without overt guiding narration. It all comes together quite well.
