Admired for her fearlessness and passion, Abby is a vocal advocate for women's rights and equal opportunity, pushing to translate the success of her team to the real world. She has become a heavily requested speaker to a wide a range of audiences, from college students to executives at Fortune 500 companies. In Forward, Abby recounts her own decisions, wins, losses, and the pivotal moments that helped her become the world class athlete and leader she is today. Wambach's book goes beyond the soccer field to reveal a soulful person grappling universal questions about how we can live our best lives, and become our truest selves. Interesting and Honest
submitted by Maria Maguire on July 3, 2018, 11:58pm
I found this book pretty interesting and easy to read. Abby talks frankly about her excessive drinking, letting herself get out of shape between seasons, and having to transition from always being the best on the field to actually having to work for a place. I especially appreciated that she doesn't make excuses for herself, but openly admits her faults.
Also compelling was near the end of the book, as Abby contemplates what to do after soccer, and begins to truly realize the disparity between men's and women's professional sports. I remember hearing about the women's soccer players who were suing FIFA over the unprecedented use of turf on the Women's World Cup fields, and it was neat to see a perspective from one of those players. A good read if you follow women's soccer or are a fan of Abby Wambach.
Raw submitted by lfmarcus on August 25, 2019, 12:04pm I had no idea about Abby's journey, and I'm so glad a friend suggested it! As a "non-sports person," I underestimated how gripping I would find a book like this.
