Not a difficult book.
Not a trouble to read.
In fact, it reads almost to easily.
It’s hard because it’s smooth and easy to read.
Some of the phrases go down as nice as the special angel lay cake that Ephram’s sister makes.
It’s hard because it unflinchingly exposes the nasty that simmer beneath our surface.
I am glad that I read it, but it was hard to read it.
The explanation for Ruby’s slide into herself and away from the word started when she was young.
Now that she returned to haunt her hometown people are more comfortable with vilifying than helping her.
Like Beloved and the Bluest Eye, this book will move you to compassion.
