In this variation on the story of "The Fisherman and His Wife," a young Ukrainian girl must repeatedly return to the wren she has rescued to relay her parents' increasingly greedy demands.

She needs nothing, but later her parents insist on her asking the wren for a bigger house with more land. As time goes on, they become more and more greedy, wanting more and more from the wren, while Luba becomes more and more unhappy. She wants her family back to the way they were when they lived a simpler life.
