"The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don't. As the kingdoms of Erilea fracture around her, enemies must become allies if Aelin is to keep those she loves from falling to the dark forces poised to claim her world"-- Provided by publisher.

A stunning and beautiful next installment - submitted by jsphntan on October 3, 2016, 8:19pm Sarah Maas does what she always does – she draws the reader into her world of imagination and then expands that world magnificently. Even though this is the 5th book, it truly is the start of Aelin’s long journey to the throne. I would have expected Aelin to be firmly in her power as a monarch by now, but after reading Empire of Storms, I am just starting to see the depth of the author’s careful and intricate planning. Over the course of the entire series so far, we’ve seen our favorite heroine transform from Calaena, the fabled assassin of the land, to Aelin, the reluctant lost princess of a damaged country, to finally becoming the Queen of her people and architect of a revolution against age-old forces. So much has happened in Aelin’s character, and that is precisely what makes this story so interesting for me. But it’s not just about Aelin. It’s also about the enemies that have been introduced, the friends that have stood beside her and the enemies-turned-friends that have joined her cause. Though not everyone is in the same place at the same time, all of the stories intertwine and provide depth to the plot. Specifically in this book, Maas shapes the story through the experiences of a large cast of supporting characters. In the previous books, Aelin’s was the dominant perspective. But in this one, we see how Maas uses the different perspectives as a tool for expanding the world and revealing important backstories. It’s refreshing, exciting, and urges the reader to wait and see how all loose threads of this tapestry will be weaved together in the conclusion.

Love it! submitted by AngryNerd1611 on August 2, 2018, 6:22pm Really well written, beautiful, exciting, and heartbreaking all in one!

A Large Buildup but WORTH IT submitted by Nay7 on August 15, 2020, 10:43pm A lot of planning and so so heartbreaking

Wonderfully intense and complex submitted by meerakmr on August 19, 2022, 1:23pm Another great addition to the series! The build up was amazing in all of the separate plots running through the book. Maas kept readers on their toes and desperate for more as she switched between the plots from chapter to chapter. The ending was artfully written, with the heart-wrenching emotion characteristic of Maas's other works.

Empire of Storms submitted by bookworms216 on July 24, 2023, 12:09pm one of my favorite books in the series
