YEESH!!!!! This is not the cover for the fantastic and imaginative children's picture book, LION, by William Pene DuBois!
I have no idea where whoever files the books for AADL got this cover illustration but can I just say, "MY EYES!"?
The actual book LION recounts the evolution of the creation of LION by the Artist Foreman at The Animal Factory, many years after he had come up with his first, and only previous albeit award winning creation, WORM. It follows Artist Foreman's journey from conception to many doubts and missteps of design to the final version, LION as we know him today, presented to the Chief Designer, who agrees that LION is a wonderful creation and proclaims that too will be immediately sent to Planet Earth.
My younger brothers and I first read this book when we were renting a house from a professor on sabbatical and it was in the family library. When I grew up, I got a copy for my own 4 children, and everyone of my (now 13) grandchildren has been just as enthralled by the story and illustrations as we were back in the 1960s.
