Middle-Grade Civil War History submitted by sdunav on July 31, 2013, 12:27pm This is an excellent middle-grade kid's book that I think would really appeal to lots of boys - it's short first person chapters by different characters who were at or involved in the first major battle of the Civil War - the Battle of Bull Run. It's a little gory (amputations, as described by a dr; characters getting severely wounded or having friends & horses killed), so I wouldn't recommend it for kids younger than 9 or 10. Though many of the chapters would be fine, if parents wanted to pick and choose some to read aloud.
