a gentle, comforting presence
submitted by 21621031390949 on June 24, 2016, 1:01pm
This is the story of a police widow, left with young children, who went back to school - seminary - and became a Unitarian Universalist minister. She then began work as the chaplain for the Maine Game Warden Service. What? The game wardens need a chaplain? The surprising answer to this is "Yes." In this book, Braestrup talks about her role with these armed officers, who are sometimes called upon to search for missing persons, and who deal with human deaths. This is a simple, humble memoir that will enrich your life.
Note: 2020 - I just read this book a second time and once again, truly loved it. Gentle, comforting, Braestrup is just the person I would want at my side in a rough time.
Also, BTW, the writing is beautiful.
