This is a transformative book.
Honest, ugly, beautiful, real.
Glennon is known to me through Facebook, her posts are shared by many of the strong and loving women I know.
When I came across her book at Book Expo America (BEA) I thought it could be interesting to read and review it.
I didn't know of her first book (which I now want to read with all the fervor Game of Thrones fans bring to the morning coffee chatter at work), so I was unaware of her hard-won battle with addiction.
As a person that has struggled myself with bulimia, not trusting my body, shame, and wondering at the sanity of the people that love me (surely they can't~ they wouldn't~ if they knew the real and messy me) I held on to the book and raptly walked through it with her.
There is much to re-read in the book.
But, for me, the experience came down to her description to her daughters about the meaning of sexy.
"...sexy is a grown-up word to describe a person who's confident that she is already exactly who she was made to be. A sexy woman knows herself and she likes the way she looks, thinks, and feels and she doesn't try to change to match anybody else."
Glennon is the Skin Horse in the Velveteen rabbit- sexy, she tells us, is being real.
There is more, much more, in this book- forgiveness, hurt, pain, confusion, loneliness.
Read it.
5 of 5 stars.

This book immediately found its way onto my favorites shelf. Glennon weaves a beautiful story of redemption: through her own recovery from various addictions and onto finding the courage to proclaim unapologetically who she is becoming in the midst of her uncertainty.
I've seen a lot of critics dismiss Glennon to the genre of "Christian mommy chick-lit"...and we can unpack all of the assumptions there later...but if you have any reservations about this book, I implore you to give it a chance. You'll be the better for it.
