"In the ten years since her beloved, groundbreaking Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life, New York Times bestselling author Amy Krouse Rosenthal has been quietly at work on this modest but mighty magnum opus, creating a spectacular literary experience that is unprecedented, unforgettable, and explosively human. Amy Krouse Rosenthal has cultivated a distinct blend of nonlinear memoir, observational humor, wistful reflections, and interactive connections with readers. A decade after Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life, she's back with a sublime new work, a timeless collection of insights, memories, and moments that are at once intimate and universal. Why the title Textbook Amy Krouse Rosenthal? Because each piece of prose is organized into classic subjects such as Social Studies, Music, and Language Arts. Because textbook would accurately describe a book with a first-of-its-kind interactive text messaging component. Because textbook is an expression meaning "quintessential"--Oh, that wordplay and unconventional format is so typical of her, so textbook AKR. Because if an author's previous book has the word encyclopedia in the title, following it up with a textbook would be rather nice. Textbook Amy Krouse Rosenthal speaks to the awe, bewilderment, and poignancy of being alive"-- Provided by publisher.

Seeing beauty everywhere submitted by alleywater on July 2, 2017, 6:41pm Amy has a different view of the world. She seeings things that others miss and this is what this book is about. It is the beauty of humans and that world all around us. This book made me want to go out into the world and find what beautiful things are happening all around me.
interesting concept submitted by camelsamba on July 14, 2017, 10:04pm This was an interesting concept, an interactive book that you text with. The main drawback for me is that I was usually reading it at bedtime, so I wasn't able to fully take advantage of the interactive elements. I might send one of the suggested texts, but I didn't want to view the web material on my teeny phone screen - I'd rather experience it from a desktop computer. I suspect this is more characteristic of readers of advanced age with old eyes! :^0 Sigh.
Unique, inspiring experience submitted by Elizabethreads on June 30, 2021, 5:20pm The late Amy Krouse Rosenthal found magic everywhere, and this book is no exception. At times whimsical and fun, reflective and compelling, it reminded me of our connectedness with each other. I wish she was still alive to write more books.
