Symbolism Meets Diplomacy
submitted by Sara W on June 22, 2011, 5:29pm
Photographs are the centerpiece of this coffee table-style book by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. I'm not very interested in or knowledgeable about jewelry, but it was easy to admire these pieces along with the commentary and intentions with which Albright presented them.
What I appreciated the most though, was the simplicity of Albright's tactic - wearing a pin that embodied the message she wanted to express that day - while performing one of the most difficult, complicated and nuanced jobs in government. Symbolic, simple and smart.
An interesting read submitted by Cassildra on September 19, 2018, 5:36pm Madeleine Albright was the first American woman who became Secretary of State. This is not a memoir of hers, but it is a retelling of how she used her pins to great effect in the diplomatic realm. It also discusses her personal collection beyond the diplomatic use. It's a fascinating little coffee table-style book, and I like it for the photography and anecdotes if nothing else. Albright is an interesting figure and that shines through even in the book's short quips.
Love this submitted by crp on August 10, 2019, 4:28pm Love this- I once toured an exhibit of her pins - loved it.
