COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Realistic submitted by makharris on July 16, 2014, 9:31am This book really tells about hardships in a time sort of like the Great Depression. It also teaches that being superstitious can be okay, but taking it to far is not okay. I enjoyed this book so very much.

Enjoyed this book! submitted by jgetty on November 30, 2020, 10:55am I enjoyed the historical story in this book, the hardships of the time, and the decisions the people made. I liked the strong character of the main character girl. I did not like the mother's cruelty to the girl of withholding love and affection when the girl wanted it so badly. That withholding of love and affection went through the whole book, and was so sad to me. The reason was explained near the beginning of the book, but the mother was a cruel person to do this to her needy child who was a good child and deserved love and affection. It was a great book and story except for that.
