Wonderful Collection of Short Stories submitted by troze on July 22, 2014, 10:26am This book is filled with an assortment of short stories which revolve around the lives of various Indian and Indian-Americans. Each story is well crafted and pulls the reader in, and while the stories are not connected, one can sense the similarities of ethnicity which bind the characters together. Each story features different characters in different places and times, each of whom is struggling with something. Each story is wonderful and seems very complete, despite their shortness. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for well written stories which are easy to read despite the complexity of the characters. Ms. Lahiri is a great writer and I look forward to reading more of her works.

Started my love of short stories submitted by chelseavp on July 30, 2018, 10:15pm I was always skeptical of short stories, but this collection began my love of reading short stories. Love this author and this book.

Quick Read submitted by treechild on June 21, 2019, 1:28am A series of moving short stories. Lahiri does a great job of weaving complex stories, character and relationships!

Sad but compelling short stories submitted by cayluebeck on July 19, 2020, 2:06pm Lahiri has an excellent craft for telling stories weaving between various definitions of home both in the United States and India. The perspectives range from people in love, out of love, children, adults and those older. Each topic is different from the one before it, yet all have a taste of bittersweet to them. One of my favorites was about the child and his babysitter. The nice thing about short stories is if you don't mesh well with one chapter there is always a completely new one next.

perfect book submitted by AnnieKelly on July 11, 2022, 3:44pm I am typically not a huge fan of short stories, but somehow this book manages to do it perfectly. A beautiful collection of stories that weaves so many perspectives together. Superb.

Heartwarming and Heartbreaking submitted by wendylv on August 24, 2022, 10:44am I loved this book and I don't know why I waited 23 years to read it. It is delightful and heartbreaking and heart-warming and sweet and sad. Each story stands on its own but also fits into the larger themes of connection and isolation. I'm adding more Jhumpa Lahiri books to my list.
