His project assignment was to photograph people from Texas, the Southwest to see descendants of those who settled the West.
The photo of a man in the first few pages, head cocked with suspicion, his face tough with resentment, the truck driver had a fascinating story that followed the encounter.He said how he hated his life, hated himself, and Avedon talked with him, actually became friends.Told him he could make it better. He said it changed his life.
