6th Grade Teachers and Family submitted by sdunav on June 17, 2017, 10:07am Mostly charming story for middle-grade kids, although a few notes struck me as a bit off, realistically.
Richard Peck is a Timeless Gem submitted by lcbuday on August 26, 2018, 1:15pm There's a special kind of nostalgia brought about by being an older reader diving into this fabulous book. Richard Peck's writing style is beautifully familiar to anyone who's read his earlier works, particularly "A Long Way From Chicago" and "A Year Down Yonder," but at the same time "The Best Man" is truly a product of the 2010s, with the slang and technology to match. It's a fascinating combination that works surprisingly well. Archer is a well-meaning and slightly oblivious protagonist, and adults and kids alike will relate to him and root for him in his journey to get through middle school intact and become the best man he can be.
