"Working women today are better educated and more well qualified than ever before. Yet men still predominate in the corporate world. In The Confidence Code, Claire Shipman and Katty Kay argue that the key reason is confidence. Combining cutting-edge research in genetics, gender, behavior, and cognition--with examples from their own lives and those of other successful women in politics, media, and business--Kay and Shipman go beyond admonishing women to "lean in."Instead, they offer the inspiration and practical advice women need to close the gap and achieve the careers they want and deserve" -- from publisher's web site.

Informative and inspiring! submitted by TeacherN on July 22, 2014, 11:40am Written by two journalists, Katty Kay and Claire Shipman, The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance - What Women Should Know, is a well-written, interesting, and inspiring read. Its basic premise is that even though many women experience such things as anxiety, self-doubt, a desire to be perfect, or any number of physiological factors that can impede confidence, women can actively work to improve confidence by taking more risks, experiencing more failure, and doing things that fall outside of their comfort zones.

This may sound like a self-help book, but it really isn't, at least not in the conventional sense. The book is primarily informational; however, the information it provides is helpful because it allows women see that they are not alone in their struggles, and it provides abundant evidence that women can actively work to improve their confidence at any age.
