Best if you know his work; excellent writing submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 15, 2017, 9:37am I generally don't enjoy short stories, because they don't give me enough time to get settled into the story before they are over. Luckily for me, Sanderson doesn't seem capable of writing a *truly* short story. This collection is short stories that aren't. They generally play into worlds that he has already created, and have apparently all been previously published except one (though I had only encountered one of the eight). I mostly would not recommend this book unless you are already acquainted with Sanderson's work, as some are truly stand-alone but others dive deeply into characters with thorough histories elsewhere.

But if you know his worlds, characters, and works, this is a MOST excellent addition to the cosmere.
