In this highly readable and provocative book, Dr. Jason Fung sets out an original, robust theory of obesity that provides startling insights into proper nutrition. Flying in the face of the weight-loss recommendations that have failed in the past, this book reveals that obesity is a hormonal, not a caloric imbalance. As he explores the latest in nutritional science, Dr. Fung provides practical, effective advice on weight loss and the treatment of Type 2 diabetes based on sound scientific principles.

somewhat disappointing submitted by smgop on June 29, 2017, 8:46pm Dr Fung's approach is a little sarcastic for my taste.
Fascinating science submitted by jghaferi on December 19, 2017, 9:24am Amazed that what we've been taught to believe as truth is actually harmful to our health. The masses of overweight people, despite following all of the "rules" speak for themselves. A very intriguing read, I couldn't put this book down. After putting Dr. Fung's principles to work, I find my mood is even, my energy and sleep have improved, and I feel FULL for the first time in my adult life. Excited to read more by other authors on this topic.
The Obesity Code : : Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss submitted by lstorc on June 28, 2019, 4:15pm This was a little too man-splaining for my taste, but refreshing to hear about real people vs. unattainable ideals.
Good submitted by crp on July 18, 2020, 2:15am A good book, but not overly simplistic in its approach.

Homeostasis and hormones are the driving mechanisms for fat storage and fat burning in the human body.
Dr. Fung, an end-stage-renal disease physician, supplies the necessary plain-English, evidence-based explanations of how they work to increase and decrease obesity. The research is all based on subject pools of thousands of subjects, not cherry-picked small-sample outcomes.
Life changing. Terrible title, great book submitted by denisekim on July 27, 2023, 8:41pm This book was life changing and helped me reframe my understanding of weight and health from a calorie-based approach (calories in/out) to an insulin-based approach. I lost 25 lbs and was no longer pre-diabetic. I have a medical background so I really enjoyed reading all the literature review in the book. I have recommended it to many others.
