We all know the headiness and excitement of the early days of love. But what comes after? In Edinburgh, a couple, Rabih and Kirsten, fall in love. They get married, they have children but no long-term relationship is as simple as happily ever after. "The Course of Love" is a novel that explores what happens after the birth of love, what it takes to maintain love, and what happens to our original ideals under the pressures of an average existence.

Perceptive, Poetic and Discerning submitted by sVfGI7Glt2pz7GZgVB90 on August 11, 2019, 8:44am Don't misjudge this work, as many readers do. There's dissatisfaction in that de Botton tells us nothing of what love is, only what it isn't. Second, if you're in search of a novel, it feels as though de Botton had not yet ripened as a storyteller. His clever "commentary" is not adequate compensation. Think carefully, despite these weaknesses, de Botton's work is philosophical.
