COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Don't mistake this as a children's book ... its an allegorical fairytale submitted by sVfGI7Glt2pz7GZgVB90 on August 16, 2019, 12:18pm Written to teach unconditional love, redemption, and other Christian values. Features the account of a ten-year-old chimneysweep named Tom, callously abused by his master, Grimes. Tom drowns and the fairies turn him into a peculiar creature called a “water-baby.” In his new life, Tom meets many fairies, aquatic creatures, and other water-babies. In the end, Tom helps his spiteful former master find repentance. A significant book, it helped rally support for the 1840 Chimney Sweepers’ Regulation Act, which forbade the use of child labor to climb into and clean chimneys.
