COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A classic that's still fresh submitted by amy on July 19, 2019, 10:00am This masterpiece of historical biography - a set of biographies on the first twelve caesars written in the early years of the Imperial Roman era - is still remarkably fresh some 2,000 years later. Suetonius, a historian and close friend of Roman senator and prolific letter-writer Pliny the Younger, provides a wealth of incisive yet vivid detail about the personal habits, leadership style, and, notably, the death of each man. Included are numerous anecdotes of murderous, petty, cowardly, and loathsome behavior, as well as thoughtful reflection on each caesar's legacy. A great read.
