In the shabby district called Tortilla Flat above Monterey, California lives a gang whose exploits compare to those of King Arthur's knights.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Not my favorite Steinbeck submitted by lballard on June 15, 2018, 3:08pm Read this because I was headed for Monterey and wanted something with a sense of place. Saw a comment elsewhere that Steinbeck said this was the nights of the round table, only with poor Hispanic/Native American/Caucasian/Spanish people instead of rich white ones. Gives an interesting perspective on how actions are perceived based on class if you keep that in mind.
Had some amazingly good Mexican food while in Monterey though.
