Pretty good, but not without flaws submitted by eringogreen on June 25, 2011, 3:52pm This was my second Jodi Picoult read and she definitely knows how to write a page turner. The subject
matter interested me and kept me engaged, but there is something about Picoult's novels that tend to bug me. In this one, it was that it was too evident who her favorite character was and I didn't share that same love for her. Alex is a career-driven judge who's daughter was present at a school shooting. Alex whines about not feeling like her daughter is opening up to her, but wants to continue on as the judge anyway. it's so frustrating that I couldnt even read through those parts. Sometimes with Picoult, I think she takes very serious and controversial subject matter too lightly and I think that some of the struggles of the characters are not explored deeply enough and maybe in some cases don't seem realistic. This was no exception, and while I enjoyed the read, I think I'm going to take a break from Picoult for a while.

Ugh submitted by nicole on June 18, 2013, 4:20pm These sorts of books always stress me out, but if you can get past the fact that it's horribly depressing, it's a good book.

19 minutes submitted by hcf on July 30, 2014, 4:12pm picoult is consistent with her stories

Nineteen Minutes submitted by SBNB on July 5, 2015, 2:53pm It’s good, but not very memorable. I got 60 pages into it before realizing I had read it before.

Classis Picoult submitted by sarai koster-mockeridge on August 19, 2015, 1:08pm While I agree with the revewers above, the one thing that this book has that most of Picoult's other books don't have, is a suprise ending. This book is a shallow investigation into the characters, and not particularly memorable, but was interesting enough that I finished it.

Old submitted by cindygeer on June 27, 2018, 2:19pm I enjoyed it in high school but it probably wouldn't hold my interest now. Bummed.

Wow. submitted by Xris on June 27, 2022, 11:46pm Being an employee of a school, this was hard to read. Bullied people should have better follow through, and bullies should be held accountable. And the treatment of the young main female character was hard to read too, especially since the recent Supreme Court decision.

Still relevant submitted by leah karr on August 5, 2022, 12:20am This book sticks with you. Unfortunately because school violence continues to be an issue. It’s a tough subject but a well written book.

Nineteen Minutes submitted by czadams on August 28, 2022, 9:25am I didnt think I was going to like this book because of the content. I dont like thinking about the people who go to schools and shoot people. This book surprised me. It humanized all the community members involved and for that I am very impressed. The inner struggles each character expresses is so deep and relatable. WOW. Please read this!

Engrossing submitted by vclinton on August 8, 2023, 10:16am I'm not a huge Picoult fan, and this book is not flawless, but it definitely held my interest.
