liked it a lot submitted by jjdijkstra81 on August 22, 2011, 5:00pm Had to read it for school, and actually liked it! which is rare...coming of age story of a foster child, engrossing

Love it! submitted by kferguson on July 24, 2016, 2:54pm Alexie knows how to tell a story

The further I read, the more I liked it submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 18, 2022, 11:29pm didn’t love _Flight_ at first, but the further I got into it, the better I liked it. I’m glad I stuck with the story.

The narrator is a teenager in foster care who time travels into others’ bodies/lives, and picks up some important lessons along the way. The voice feels authentically wise-ass teenager, really naïve about some things but wildly knowledgeable about others. That’s actually part of what made the book annoying (I really don’t need to spend time being a traumatized teen, thank you very much), but eventually what gave the story so much of its charm. There was learning and change, and it was very well done (even if a little heavy-handed/ in your face at times). Also, the abruptness of the time travel was off-putting at first, but as I reflected on it, it was completely true to the story and the character’s experience.

The book surprised me, and hooked me the further I got into it.
