Great submitted by 04foremanh on July 6, 2012, 6:36pm A very realistic and well written classic!
Brings the Revolutionary War home submitted by FordAlpha on August 13, 2019, 11:02am An essential companion to kids' study of the American Revolutionary War, "My Brother Sam Is Dead" was perhaps the first novel I read as a kid that brought home the cost of war. The American Revolution is often taught in simplified terms, but this story vividly portrays the complexity that real people navigated at the time. The narrative structure is a bit advanced for kids, beginning with the end already known (Sam is dead) and working back through the events that led up to it.
