Provides a Lot of Historical Context submitted by Meginator on June 23, 2021, 5:51pm This edition of the expansive Images of America series celebrates the accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen, a series of all-Black Army Air Force units created during the Second World War. Covering everything from prewar Black aviation pioneers to Black astronauts, the book places the Tuskegee training center in historical context while sharing stories about some of the men and women who came through its ranks. Unlike many books about pilots, this book consistently pays tribute to the men and women who served behind the scenes, maintaining the aircraft and the base itself so the pilots could successfully take to the air. The introduction is a bit choppy in the way that it skips around chronologically and geographically, but the captions are nicely written and provide a lot of interesting stories and context for the images. I heartily recommend this to anyone interested in the history of aviation, particularly military aviation.
