Teddy is unhappily single in L.A. In between sessions with his therapist and dates with men he meets online, Teddy has debates with his dachsund, Lily, who occupies his heart. Unfortunately, he is also able to communicate with the "octupus" attached to Lily's head, which is soon revealed to be a metaphor for Lily's lethal cranial tumor. As Lily's condition worsens, Teddy faces off with the "octopus", engaging it in a battle of wills that takes on epic proportions. An exceedingly authentic, keenly insightful, funny and ardent tribute to the purity of love between a pet and its human. -- adapted from Booklist and Publisher's Weekly.

quirky submitted by 21621031390949 on June 23, 2017, 10:18pm Fun, quirky, and sad, too. For the first few chapters, I wasn't sure I was going to like - or finish - this book. But very quickly I found myself reading just a little bit further and looking forward to when I could next pick it up. A very real book, at the same time that it's fantasy. Based on the author's experience.

Magical Realism with a Dachsund submitted by sdunav on June 15, 2021, 5:17pm I really didn't think I was going to like this book but it was (in a very strange way) hard to put down. Lily the dog's "voice" is awesome! just! like! you! expect! from a small excitable dog, and the details of life with an aging dog are realistic and beautiful.

Unexpected and interesting submitted by A2AE on June 30, 2022, 11:17am A great audio book, especially Lily's excited voice. I could have lived without trippy chapter at sea, but otherwise enjoyed the story.

Much better than i thought submitted by bjkoch on July 15, 2022, 3:15pm Came here after guncle. this is just as fun
