Sent to Lisbon and Morocco, where a British studio is creating a silent film version of "The Pirates of Penzance," Mary Russell investigates a series of crimes targeting the production and confronts a high-stakes situation when actual pirates orchestrate a hostage situation.

Slow Going for Russell & Holmes
submitted by sdunav on July 2, 2012, 4:44pm
The 11th Mary Russell/Holmes mystery takes place mostly in Portugal and Morocco, and is decidedly slow going for the first two thirds of the book (with all Russell and no Holmes). If you're interested in Gilbert & Sullivan or the early years of the film industry, you may like this more than I did.
My expectations for this series are perhaps unreasonably high.
