100+ year old novel still applicable to today submitted by ekjensen on August 28, 2021, 9:58am Mr Sinclair's muckraking novel about the corruption, pollution, and enslavement of everyday workers in the oil industry of southern California in the 1910s and 1920s still resonates today. As told ironically through the eyes and voice of Bunny, the "oil prince," he struggles between the classes of his oil baron father and the everyday workers leaning to socialism and communism. It's a long book and a commitment for today's reader. Enjoy the detail on how to drill for oil, too!
