Frederick submitted by Juliesharp91 on July 10, 2017, 8:44am This is a very sweet story about a very sage, and spiritual mouse named Frederic. It is similar to the "ant and grasshopper" story line, where the ant being very hard-working is rewarded for his effort and the grasshopperbeing lazy and eventually meets harsh pratical realities. However, there is a twist. The sage mouse isn't lazy although the other mice seem to resent him for not working. And the mice although they have worked hard still end up facing difficult times and it is then that they turn to Frederick who demonstrates the value of resting, playing, and being in the moment.

Love, sweet and wise submitted by jinhuanjoy on July 19, 2021, 12:49am We read this book before we moved to Ann Arbor. My kid loves reading it. She enjoys the story line, the mice cooperation and the last poem on season.
She created a game based on this book, pretending to be Frederick mouse collecting different things to bring back memory of different seasons to cold winter.
Frederick the mouse teaches us there is more to life than basic needs (food, water, shelter). The heart of a poet makes life energetic, positive and imaginative.
