Interesting and partially convincing

This book condemns the U.S. maternity healthcare system. And unlike a plethora of books and movies saying the same thing, this was written by someone with credentials. Consequently the book itself is less "be one with the Earth mother" and more data and evidence, which I appreciated.
That said, I would have appreciated a more balanced approach. Like many people with a bone to pick with hospital births, Marsden ignores any evidence that doesn't support his viewpoint. This, for me, makes the rest of his analysis suspect.
For instance, the rallying cry from this book is that the U.S. has a rather high infant mortality rate. But it's doubtful that the particular things Marsden condemns- epidural, labor induction, etc- are responsible for any major portion of that.
Still, this book is worth reading and very interesting.
