When a lazy bird hatching an egg wants a vacation, she asks Horton, the elephant, to sit on her egg--which he does through all sorts of hazards until he is rewarded for doing what he said he would.

Faithful 100% submitted by kathscot on August 6, 2012, 11:56am A great story about keeping one's word.

horton submitted by Avik on August 15, 2013, 11:08am Poor horton had to wait a long time. I like the last sentence, they sent him home happy, 100%.

I know a lot of Mayzie Birds.... submitted by Kikumatsu97 on August 25, 2014, 8:59am There are a lot of aspects of this story and one can be more profound for the reader than others. For me, it was always the deplorable Mayzie. I don't love Dr. seuss actually. I always heave a great sigh when one of my children approaches the comfy reading chair holding something of the rhyming variety. (Hop on Pop is banned from our house) But this was always a favorite among my siblings and I growing up.

Oh Horton. submitted by Sara W on July 13, 2015, 9:44pm I like Horton, and the repetition of "one hundred per cent" is always a winner when reading this with my kid. The story has a good moral, and Horton is easy to root for. The biology of the baby bird isn't quite right, at all, but I agree with Dr. Seuss that "it should be, it should be, it SHOULD be like that." And it's a story, so why not have the happy ending?

Horton! submitted by candyceh811 on July 24, 2015, 9:23pm This is a classic Dr. Seuss book and one that teaches important lessons on patience and persistence.

This book made me a better person submitted by crankycrack on July 25, 2015, 8:40pm Thanks Horton.

Funny story and artwork. submitted by tbbrown76 on July 18, 2019, 1:56pm Horton, an elephant, finds an egg with no mom. He sees it hatch whereupon the denizen of the egg imprints onto Horton and hilarity ensues. Recommended.
