"A Tom Doherty Associates book."
The war with the Parshendi moves into a new, dangerous phase, as Dalinar leads the human armies deep into the heart of the Shattered Plains. Meanwhile Shallan searches for the legendary city of Urithuru, and Kaladin, leader of the restored Knights Radiant, masters the powers of a Windrunner.

Engrossing submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 27, 2014, 1:48pm How can a 1,000 page book be *this* engrossing?!? But it is. Absolutely it is.

Sanderson is one of the most masterful writers that I have ever read. He balances the characters with the arc of the grand story beautifully. Both have depth. Conflicts are believable. Growth (or refusal to grow) occurs naturally and comes out of who the characters are and the history we have of them. The machinations of politics adds to the reality of the world, without bogging it down. (Although the one day of brilliance resulting in a world plan to be decoded and followed stretched believability for me. But that was pretty much my only quibble with the storyline in the whole book.)

And, as opposed to Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, Sanderson didn't spend the first 500 pages recapping the last book. Hooray!

Very entertaining, but not my favorite fantasy writer submitted by ajthomp on July 1, 2020, 2:14pm I'm very much enjoying this book series thus far, and as a fan of the genre I can see why he is so well regarded by many readers. I love his inventive world building and interesting story arc. For me, his writing can be somewhat distracting at times, for instance with the intermittent use of modern colloquialisms that don't necessarily fit the medieval-type fantasy setting. Also his writing of dialogue between characters I find to be somewhat cringy at times. Still, I find the book very entertaining and encourage any readers interested in the fantasy genre to give Sanderson a read and see if it's for you! 3 out of 5 for me.

Words of Radiance submitted by SBNB on June 21, 2022, 10:19pm I think this is my favorite book in the series so far, which is surprising since Shallan ranks towards the bottom on my list. This is a great series in an interesting and completely different world, and I highly recommend it.
