"Kneel or bleed"--from page 1 of cover.
The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they've always known -- and pits Mare against the darkness that has grown in her soul. Mare Barrow's blood is red -- the color of common folk -- but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control. The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince -- the friend -- who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind. Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors. But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat. Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Frustratingly good submitted by steveiew on June 24, 2016, 2:20pm I spent most of the book being frustrated with Mare, but I appreciate that she isn't a perfect protagonist. I can't wait for the next one to come out!

Not as good as Red Queen submitted by dragon_rider13 on July 31, 2018, 10:04pm I liked the book, and the whole story was very interesting, but it's not as good as the first book, Red Queen.

this book was okay submitted by Family_Coffman on August 11, 2018, 9:47am I kind of knew where it was going and mare was pretty stupid, but it was okay(i've read worse)

If your thinking of reading it, submitted by Miriam Wasserman on June 21, 2019, 7:58am READ IT!!!!!!!! IT IS SUCH AN AMAZING BOOK!!!!!!!!!

Meh submitted by c_zhang on June 28, 2019, 12:31am This book made me lose interest in the series. It got confusing and the characters were frustrating at times.

Fine submitted by Liana Z on July 30, 2019, 9:19am Overall this series was pretty interesting, but "Glass Sword" was my least favorite.

meh submitted by autumnmist on August 15, 2019, 6:17pm out of the entire series, this was the one i didn't like. The other ones were better.

Slow but fun! submitted by Gladman on June 19, 2020, 8:51am This book was slow, like the last one. However, it was also a great read and totally worth it! I recommend this.

Part 2 submitted by caburr47 on July 17, 2021, 9:09pm It is a good thing in my opinion that the book starts where the last one left off.
I felt it was a good combination of maintaining the plot and keeping the characters interesting while introducing the reader to more of the world and the people in it.

Expectations submitted by The Book Broken Girl on October 17, 2022, 10:17pm I had heard a lot about this one being better than King's Cage, but not so great. I came into it having medium expectations, and let's just say it didn't really deliver. it was okay but I think that there was a serious opportunity to really develop kilorn and mare's relationship and that aveyard didn't take it, and I wish she had.

overall it was okay, ive read worse but i've also read much better. personally, red queen and queen song were better, this one just didn't do it for me, kind of like steel scars.

Rest of the Series was Much Better submitted by Jooyeon on June 12, 2023, 8:25pm You should read this book to understand the rest of the series, and the series itself was great (especially the ending), but this book was my least favorite. Mare and Cal were just too bland here for my taste. But I do think you should read it, since King’s Cage is amazing.
