Principles of designed plant communities -- The inspiration of the wild -- The design process -- Creating and managing a plant community.
An "alternative to traditional horticulture: designed plantings that function like naturally occurring plant communities. Thomas Rainer and Claudia West, two leading voices in ecological landscape design, reveal how plants fit together in nature and how to use this knowledge to create landscapes that are resilient, beautiful, and diverse."--Page 4 of cover.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS
For garden design pros submitted by dhastngs on March 15, 2021, 5:35pm The book uses only botanical (Latin) names of plants and there is no table listing both botanical and common names for reference. The material is aimed at design professionals, not most gardeners. There is an unfortunate hostility toward the native plant movement. Reference is made to "ecological services" but there is no mention of or advice toward preserving native insects, birds and other fauna, a hallmark of native plant proponents.
