some enticing places submitted by camelsamba on July 13, 2013, 7:04pm Interesting set of science fiction short stories, each set on a different "plane" of existence. Some of them I'd like to visit (if they were real). In particular, i wanted to see the structure described in The Building and wanted to learn more about the Nna Mmoy language.

“Texts written in Nna Mmoy are not linear, either horizontally or vertically, but radial, budding out in all directions, like tree branches or growing crystals, from a first or central word which, once the text is complete, may well be neither the center nor the beginning of the statement. Literary texts carry this polydirectional complexity to such an extreme that they resemble mazes, roses, artichokes, sunflowers, fractal patterns.” (p 167) “A Nna Mmoy syllable only has one written character. But it’s not a pebble. It’s a drop in the river. Learning Nna Mmoy is like learning to weave water.” (p 174)

Interdimensional Travel Guide submitted by BookwormBecky on July 18, 2023, 8:58pm An interesting read! Reminded me of a travel guide for fantastical worlds. Ursula K. Le Guin's writing in this book can seem a little dry at first, but it's delightful to see into her imagination as she builds a myriad of different worlds. I enjoyed the base concept and how relatable the narrator was.
