Originally published: U.S.A. : Viking Press, 1973.
Winner of the 1973 National Book Award, Gravity's Rainbow is a postmodern epic, a work as exhaustively significant to the second half of the twentieth century as Joyce's Ulysses was to the first. Its sprawling, encyclopedic narrative and penetrating analysis of the impact of technology on society make it an intellectual tour de force.
COMMUNITY REVIEWS
Insane - and the best book ever (imho) submitted by Kurogane Ichigo on June 20, 2013, 11:28am This novel changed how I read, and what I expect from a book. It imploded my sense of what literature can do, so carefully honed in my public school career. The plot is intricate and confounding, characters can break into song at any moment, with only warning being able to see the indented type in the upcoming paragraph, and there's a giant octopus, among other insanity, all revolving around the search for rocket 0000000, which may or may not exist. The best approach to reading this difficult book, in my opinion, is to just go with it, and not try to fight against the flow. Finish it, then start again, and, while it may not make more sense, it'll certainly get under your skin further and further. Highly recommended.
