What would happen if The Rapture actually took place and millions of people just disappeared from the earth? How would normal people respond? The residents of Mapleton use a variety of coping mechanisms in this thought-provoking novel about love, connection, and loss.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Thought provoking submitted by cherylo on June 15, 2012, 7:57pm An apparently agnostic and indiscriminate Rapture-like event throws the world into an odd sort of tailspin. Making sense of who was taken and who was left behind drives Laurie to make drastic changes in her life while her husband tries to carry on as if the event that took their daughter from them were a more ordinary sort of tragedy. Relationships are strained, fractured, and re-formed while an apparent Messiah tries to give the world something new to believe in. It seems possible the world itself will be all over in only a few years, but maybe instead the leftovers will have no choice but to go on.

Fascinating Book submitted by timdufresne on August 10, 2018, 4:39pm How do you make sense of the unexplained? When and how should you carry on in the face of the tragic/miraculous? These are great questions explored here and this book is a fascinating and entertaining read.
