Great! submitted by MetaMara on June 23, 2016, 1:23pm Fantastic second novel in the series.

A surpassing sequel submitted by cekandera on June 22, 2017, 1:21pm The "second book slump" is so well known. The second book in a series is rarely a crowd favorite as, many times, it's used simply as a connector between the introductory events of the first book and the climax of the third. While "Crown of Midnight" is a connector novel, it far surpasses the first in the series "Throne of Glass" in pretty much every way. The amount of character development, quick pacing, and masterfully built-up revelations kept me constantly engaged and I finished the book in two days. I'm definitely looking forward to the third book in the series!

Amazing submitted by c_zhang on June 28, 2019, 12:32am A great sequel to a good first book. The character development and the pacing are both amazing.

Perfection submitted by sbeegees on August 5, 2019, 5:08pm Unlike many sequels, this one manages to be even better than the first book

Amazing submitted by Nay7 on August 15, 2020, 10:33pm I couldn't get the third book fast enough. SO SO SO GOOD

This book was awesome! submitted by arader24 on June 13, 2021, 6:17pm I really enjoyed this book. It is a fast read despite the size. I look forward to the third book.

A Great Look into Celaena's Past submitted by meerakmr on August 19, 2022, 1:19pm This was an amazing book. Maas gave long-awaited details into Celaena's past after teasing readers through the first book, but kept up the action and emotion in her current time as well! Well-crafted and a ridiculously good page-turner, this book continued the series beautifully.

Excellent submitted by clk.9123 on August 21, 2022, 3:14pm I feel like for the end, it was a requirement to give this 5 stars. While I don't think the writing and the style is 100% perfect, I think the storyline itself and the whole character of Calaena deserves this rating.

Crown of Midnight was pretty unpredictable, it seemed to get a bit grittier and deeper than Throne of Glass which worked immensely in it's favor. I wasn't sure what direction this would take after the end of ToG, and the twists and turns made this really exciting. The romance that was put in here was well done, the characters deserved it and it was getting to the point anyway where as the reader, I couldn't deal with Chaol and Calaena's weird friendship thing anymore.

What's revealed at the end was a big surprise to me, I think Sarah Maas did a great job in keeping us guessing. From the beginning we see Calaena as a broken slave, who rises up and becomes the great assassin that she is, but more secrets are revealed further in Crown of Midnight that add even more to her story. I cannot wait for the next instalment, I think these books deserve more credit than what's out there.
