Charter School Expose submitted by sdunav on June 16, 2014, 8:01pm This could be more accurately titled "Stories about a Really Bad Principal in a Pie in the Sky Urban Charter School". Owens makes very good points about what students need, school pageantry, teacher evaluation, administrative power, and standardized testing and NCLB. Though his style is a little pedantic sometimes (compare Brendan Halpin's "Losing My Faculties" for some fun hyperbole and emotion on the same topic), I think this is an important book that parents considering charter schools - or parents interested in education reform - really should read. I didn't find it particularly shocking, but the details and descriptions were quite eye-opening. And note that Owens' school wasn't a for-profit charter!

We, as teachers, are under... submitted by tbbrown76 on July 3, 2014, 9:41am many stressors. If it was just students, parents and admin., that would be bad enough. But, now we feel like puppets in a big political mess. Please help.
