Landscape and Memory submitted by MH17 on June 29, 2017, 8:34pm Four siblings return to the home of their grandparents in the English countryside, where memories run deep and conflicts even deeper. Told with a roving point of view, the novel concerns itself with the secret lives of its characters and how they reconcile themselves with traumas from the past. The landscape becomes a character, imbuing the book with a sense of domestication amid the wild and the sense that the wild will always find a way to creep back in. A clever structure adds another layer to the storytelling. Hadley is a master--check out her story collections "Sunstroke" and "Married Love." Five out of five stars.
