A Bit Predictable submitted by Meginator on June 12, 2021, 12:48pm Having started with some of this duo’s other books, I found this book a bit conventional and disappointing. The moral is nice and the visual style has an inviting cartoony appeal to it (with some fun jokes and details hidden in the illustrations), but the story goes on too long and the rhythmic sections don’t flow as naturally as Donaldson’s text usually does. The story uses repetition to good effect, but it is too predictable and the variations aren’t funny or surprising enough to carry the story through all of the repetitions. I enjoyed the surprisingly sentimental ending, but didn’t find this nearly as appealing or original as other Donaldson & Scheffler books.
