Summer fun! submitted by seafair on August 11, 2011, 1:20pm If you are looking for a great beach read - consider Southern author Mary Kay Andrews - in her latest book called 'The Summer Rental' she returns to the mid-atlantic coast, but the main characters hail from her beloved Savannah.

OKAY - it's a light read, but enjoyable descriptions of the beautiful low country as well as Nags Head and surrounding areas add to the enjoyment of this book about old friends who rent a summer house together - but wait THERE's a mystery in there too.

And there are times you will LOL at the antics of the main characters..........headed to the beach? Take MKA along.

Fun Summer Read submitted by clmcdl on August 17, 2011, 1:19am Three friends rent a beachfront home in North Carolina for a month. They all have life challenges, and while relaxing by the ocean, there are lots of adventures, lots of female bonding, a cute guy - and a satisfying ending. Great summer reading.

Not for everyone! submitted by Coffeebuzz on June 20, 2015, 3:07pm The main characters meet at a summer rental with potentially deep problems. Ellis was recently fired from a job that she had made the center of her life for the last 11 years. Julia was aging out of modeling. Dorie's problem is revealed in the middle of the book. I was looking to see them understand their individual problems through some sort of experience or investigation. I was looking to see them return to their past lives, make corrections and live in a better way. Instead, I was stuck with women that solve their problems through relationships with men. I couldn't stand it. A fourth woman was thrown into the mix but she couldn't even supply enough action to make this a worthwhile read. All the characters were shallow. The place was barely described. I just don't recommend this book.

Great beach book! submitted by sfrantom on July 26, 2016, 10:36am This book inspired a group of us to take a trip to the OBX...it was that fun to read! The plot is somewhat predictable, the characters somewhat typical, but that makes the story in this book a delight to read because one can identify with the characters (or at least traits) and you can anticipate the action in the story...it's an enjoyable summer read for sure!
