Fascinating account of historical journey
submitted by willow on June 24, 2015, 10:55pm
This book is about an almost unbelievable cross-country walk by a mother-daughter team. It is quite compelling and fascinating for its basic storyline as well as the descriptions of life in small towns and big cities that the women encounter as they walk along. Kirkpatrick provided a detailed depiction of women's daily lives and the dangers they faced in some situations.
I also read "The Year We Were Famous" by Carole Estby Dagg (also owned by AADL), about the same events; it was formatted like a diary. It interpreted the story differently. Kirkpatrick's book was more centered around the women's (particularly the daughter's) inner thoughts and psychological motivations at least as much as the action of the journey.
