It.. submitted by readingqueen76 on June 17, 2014, 6:12pm It was awsome.
Nicely done children's book submitted by clmcdl on July 1, 2014, 10:40pm I read this with our 4 year old neighbor, who really enjoyed the wonderful illustrations. She had a few questions about what happened to Bernice, the squash - but it was handled quite gently by the author. We'll read it a few more times before returning the book. Be sure to check out the illustrations on the inside front and rear covers - they are adorable!

Unexpected twist
submitted by willow on August 31, 2016, 8:48pm
This book was not at all what I thought it would be -- it was, in fact, very charming and contained an unexpected twist: Sophie making the squash her pet!
Loving but sensible parents depicted, with a very satisfying ending.
Pet squash? Why not? submitted by FordAlpha on August 14, 2018, 9:47pm This is a sweet, quirky tale of a young girl who adopts a butternut squash as a pet. I love Anne Wilsdorf's illustrations, and the story has a sensible message for both kids and parents without being at all pedantic. The ending is great (awww! baby squash!); I just hope Sophie's parents don't get too strong a craving for butternut squash soup . . . mmmmmmm yummmmm
